Eels impress in PM's XIII

Sean Russell, Rory Owen and Abbi Church all enjoyed positive performances in Australia's wins over Papua New Guinea in the 2024 Prime Minister's XIII clashes in Port Morseby.

The Green & Gold overcame a spirited PNG display to notch a 42-20 victory in the Men's clash, while the Women ran riot in a 50-0 rout.

Sean Russell made his representative debut on the PM's XIII stage, coached by league legend Brad Fittler. The Eels junior played left centre for Australia, and provided a neat try assist for his winger Alofiana Khan-Pereira.

Rory Owen crossed the line twice for Australia to cap off her sensational rookie season. The Eels breakout star scored a blistering, 50-metre try from a scrum late in the first half, having already touched down in the early exchanges.

Abbi Church played outside her Eels teammate on the right wing before moving to her usual place at fullback, where she assisted a try for Teagan Berry. Church is now set to join the Jillaroos squad for the first time ahead of the Pacific Championships.

The Pacific Championships commence this week, with Eels stars set to feature across a number of nations.
