Eels trio chosen for Australian PM's XIII

Sean Russell, Abbi Church and Rory Owen have been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming Prime Minister's XIII fixtures in Papua New Guinea.

Parramatta junior Sean Russell joins an exciting, young Australian squad in his maiden representative call-up.

The outside back progressed through the Eels pathways system before making his NRL debut in 2021. Russell has gone on to make 41 appearances for the Blue & Gold, scoring 19 tries.

The PM's XIII team will be led by newly-appointed coach Brad Fittler, as well as Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga.

Abbi Church, who was named NRLW Fullback of the Year at the Dally M Medal on Wednesday, returns to the Australian fold after making her first appearance for the PM's XIII last year.

2024 has been Church's strongest season to date, taking her game to new heights and winning two honours at the NRLW Awards Night.

Rory Owen is set to make her first appearance on the representative stage in the PM's XIII team, capping off her breakout year.

The 20-year old joined the Eels in 2024 from a university rugby background and took the NRLW by storm. She was named NRLW Rookie of the Year by both the Eels and the RLPA, after scoring five tries in her debut season.

The Prime Minister's XIII matches will be held at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Morseby on Sunday 13 October.
