Nines Match Day Blog – Day Two

The Eels will return to HBF Park, Perth today for Day Two of the NRL Nines competition. The Eels started the day with a victory over the Dragons, then a victory over the Knights to progress through to the Semi Finals against the Dragons.

All games live on NRL Live Pass, Fox League and Kayo (Australia) and Sky NZ (New Zealand).

Match Highlights: Eels v Dragons Semi Final

The loss to the Dragons sees the Blue & Gold 2020 NRL Nines campaign in Perth come to an end.

18' FULL TIME | The siren rings and the Eels go down by two with the Dragons progressing through to the Grand Final.

17' Break down field by the Dragons, and Haze Dunster is there in cover defence. Next play, the ball goes through the hands and Tim Lafai manages to scurry his way to the line. Eels trail 6-8.

14' Mitch looking dangerous out wide and he forces his way over the line but he is held up! 

11' Mitch puts the foot down, finds some space and tries to flick pass to Ferguson who would of had a clear path down the wing but the ball can't be taken cleanly!

8' Razzle dazzle to end the half and it ends up with Salmon crossing! Went down the left edge, a cross field kick from Takairangi, a string of passes and he scores to the right of the posts! Big moment just before half time. Eels lead 6-4. 

6' Cross field kick contested by Dunster but a penalty blown for tackling the Dragons winger in the air. Eels looking dangerous down the Dragons end but they earn a penalty.

5' Gutherson -> Gower -> Salmon. The Eels link up to make plenty of metres through the Dragons middle before the set ends with Matterson forcing a drop out! 

4' Dragons strike first through Mikaele Ravalawa. The ball goes through the hands of the Dragons left edge and they cross over out wide. Eels trail 0-4. 

5:20pm - EELS V DRAGONS, SEMI FINAL

The Eels will face the Dragons in the Semi Final at 5:20pm local time / 8:20pm AEDT.

Match Highlights: Knights v Eels, QF

18' FULL TIME | Knights with an attacking raid at the death, but the Blue & Gold hold them out, the siren rings and the Eels claim a 14-7 victory!

15' Ferguson goes over out wide! The ball from the wing finds Mitch Moses, who goes back to the short side, the winger dances down the side line and he scores! Eels lead 14-7. 

11' A long range break from Knights' Tex Hoy who slices through the defence and wins the 60m foot race to score a converted bonus zone try. Eels lead 10-7.

10' Gower to Sivo off the kick off and there is a half break from deep inside our half! Enterprising play to start us off!

9' HALF TIME | Two tries in the opening half and the Eels lead 10-0.

6' Lane with a show and go, offloads and Dunster crosses over! Try converted. Eels 10-0.

5' Attacking play down the right but Ferguson pulled down. Ball spreads to the left and Matterson can't find Dunster and the Knights claim possession. Plenty of possession down the Knights end!

3' Huge run from Ray Stone through the middle of the field! Sets up a kick from Gutherson on the next play and Matterson scores out wide! Eels 4-0.

Eels warm up is underway! Hugh upcoming clash against the Knights.

Our Qualifying Final clash has been locked in and we will face the Newcastle Knights at 2:40pm local time / 5:40pm AEDT

FULL TIME | An important 15-7 victory over the Dragons and we move into the next stage of the competition! 

17' Gutherson slices through the Dragons right edge and he dives over for a try out wide! Eels lead 15-7. 

16' WILL SMITH! Steps, jinks and gets his way over the line for a converted bonus try. Eels lead 11-7. 

15' Eels desperate to work it out of their own in goal, and a ball from Fergsuon to Dunster sees us start the set 20m out. Big play!

12' A kick from deep within the Dragons half sees a terrible bounce for the Eels and Dragons outside back Cody Ramsey wins the race to the ball to score a converted bonus try. Eels trail 4-7.

9' Ferguson denied in the air. But a few plays later, Haze Dunster crosses in the corner after the ball goes through the hands. Eels lead 4-0. 

6' Desperate defence from Moses saves a try! Ravalawa was racing towards the corner and the half keeps him out of our in goal!

4' Through the hands, Sivo looks to plan it down in the corner but his foot has been ruled to go into touch!

3' Back to back errors from both sides. Nervous start to this must win clash!

12:20pm - 0' Here we go! The Sharks had a big victory over the Bulldogs in the previous pool game, so an Eels victory by three points or more will see the Blue & Gold progress through to the next round.

The Eels will kick off against the Dragons at 12:25pm local time / 3:25pm AEDT. With the other pool game (Sharks v Bulldogs) to be played before the Eels game, the Blue & Gold will know what result is required heading into their game.
