As part of the Blue and Gold's commitment to grow rugby league in #eelsterritory, the Eels Cup has expanded to include primary schools gala days in Katherine and Darwin. This year, The inaugural Primary School Eels Cup was established for primary school teams to take part in across Darwin.
“The agreement between the Parramatta Eels and the Northern Territory Government has assisted in the increase of Rugby League participation in the Northern Territory by 5% over the past two years,” said Michael Basan, Community Development and Engagement Manager at the Parramatta Eels.
“We launched the Primary School Eels Cup competition this year due to the success of the High School competition,” he said.
“With 5 teams entering in the first year and an event in Katherine still to take place, we are pleased with the traction the Eels and Rugby League are having in the Northern Territory.”
The 2015 Palmerston Competition consisted of four teams, Good Shepherd Lutheran College, Driver Primary School and two teams from Bakewell Primary School. Each team played three rounds before the two highest ranked teams played off in the Grand Final.
It came down to a play off on September 9th, between the Good Shepherd Lutheran College and Bakewell Primary School team 2, where Good Shepherd was victorious, 28-12.
As the winner of the Palmerston Competition, Good Shepherd, then played Holy Spirit Primary School in the Grand Final.
The Grand Final was held on Wednesday September 16th, between Good Shepherd Lutheran College and Holy Spirit Primary School. Good Shepherd were the winners as they defeated Holy Spirit Primary School 32-24.
The MVP from Holy Spirit Primary School was Aaron Kurnoth and the MVP from Good Shepherd Lutheran College was Brock Priestley.
