The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have soared to a 26-22 victory over the St George Illawarra Dragons in their Member Appreciation Round clash at Parramatta Stadium.
Taking to the field for their last home game at Parramatta Stadium, the Eels donned their pink Women In League jersey honouring all the women who signed up as 2013 members.
Mitch Rein scored first for the Dragons side, getting the Eels defence fired up early, but the Dragons held onto possession and within another fifteen minutes, it was Tyson Frizell who scored again.
A cross-field kick from Luke Kelly landed in the arms of a flying Fuifui Moimoi which landed the first try for the evening to the Eels. Ben Roberts made his first conversion to add two extra points.
A flick pass from Matt Keating sent Semi Radradra out through a gap to score the second try for the night, which Joseph Paulo converted bringing the scoreboard up to an even 12-12.
A series of fumbled passes and a knock-on from the Dragons gave the Eels the scrum feed and a penalty pushed the ball back down to the Dragons line again.
Moimois cornrows proved to be aerodynamic as he scored again with only minutes left to the first half. The conversion just missed, leaving the score at 16-12 for the half time break.
Back in the second half, Daniel Vidot scored for the Dragons but a missed conversion just evened out the scores at 16 all.
Radradra again showed his speed and step, breaking away with a flick pass from Roberts just behind the 40m line to outrun the Dragons line of defence down the field to try. Paulos conversion was good and the Parramatta Eels were back in the lead.
A beautifully executed dummy pass from Kelly got the ball in Ken Sios hands to score again for the Eels as the Blue and Gold Army went wild. The conversion was wide but the score read 26-16 with only 15 minutes left.
Dragons managed to hold the possession and Jack Stockwell put in another try, followed by a good conversion to test the Blue and Gold Armys faith. The final five minutes were tense as the Dragons pushed the game down towards the Eels line but a knock-on ball ended the game with Eels in possession. At full time, it was a win to the Eels at 26-22.
