The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have been defeated 22-12 by the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, after a dominant display from the home side in Round 23 of the NRL season.

In front of 24,607 fans, including a vocal Blue and Gold Army bay, the Eels couldn't capitalise on key opportunities with the score getting away from them.

Josh McGuire was first on the board for the Broncos, after pushing over the Eels defence right in front of the posts, with Prince adding the extras in the 11th minute.

Some Jarryd Hayne magic running the ball from left to right, with a beautiful finish by Ryan Morgan, celebrating his 50th game, saw the Eels hit back and level the scores at 6-6.

The Broncos returned fire with a couple of quick tries to Corey Oates and Josh Hoffman, with Prince making one of the two conversions, ending the first half with the home side ahead 16-6.

Jack Reed scored a try in the 51st minute, with Prince again converting to make the scoreline 22-6, where it stayed for the remaining 30 minutes of the match.

Ken Sio showed some desperate defence, getting his boot underneath another potential Reed try - but several other opportunities were missed in attack.

Reni Maitua added some respectability, scoring a late try for the Blue and Gold, bringing the final score to 22-12.

In a blow for the Eels, co-captain Jarryd Hayne was taken off with a suspected knee injury in the 66th minute after a tackle from Josh Hoffman, but word from the sheds is it's only minor.
