Congratulations Craig Bates- Pirtek Parramatta Eels Community Champion for July

Craig Bates is the President of the Parramatta Junior Eels; he also coaches a junior team and is a trainer for another two sides. His daughter Laura nominated him for the Community Champion award because of his commitment to the sport he loves - rugby league. On most Saturdays Craig arrives at his local ground at 6.30am and does not get home until 9.30pm, working hard to make sure that everything runs smoothly for his beloved club.
On behalf of the Parramatta Eels we congratulate Craig for his huge commitment to rugby league, well done Craig!
Laura’s submission
Coaching isn’t an easy thing to do. My dad has been coaching my brother’s side for 7 years now, he is a level 2 coach and he puts all of his heart into the team. He spends his own money buying more equipment for them to train, and he is always trying to help them. He is also the trainer for 2 other sides. Last year he coached a side as well as my brothers because they didn’t have a coach, and then the year before coached a different side as well as my brothers because they didn’t have a coach. He coached two teams and was trainer for another side. This year he is coaching one team and is trainer for two. He is also the president of the Parramatta Jnr Eels. So on a Saturday he is there from 6:30am setting up till sometimes 9:30pm packing up.
His dream is to one day become a development coach for Parramatta. He is 100% committed to the club and especially my brother’s side. He has coached them to the Grand Final twice, and they won once. In the sevens when there was no grand final they were undefeated. I think he is an amazing coach, president, trainer and dad.
He wants to build this club to become the best it can be. Everything he does is for the children at the club. I’m really proud of him and really proud to tell people what he does. He would do anything for this club, and as president he can’t get Club Person of the year, but he can get Community Champion of the month and that’s what he deserves.
